Outreach Ministries

There are many ways to participate in outreach ministries at Christ UMC. These opportunities range from local to international, from financial support to hands-on projects. We continually look for new ways that we might reach out to our community, our nation, and the world.

Community Building Use

As part of our mission to our community, we offer space for non-profits meetings and activities. We host about 20 support groups, many of them utilizing the 12-Step approach to healing and wholeness. The groups and their meeting schedules – including day, time, and room location – can be found using the search feature on the CUMC calendar.

In addition to hosting support groups, we host scout troops, various choirs, HOA meetings, book clubs, square dancers, and fundraisers. To request a room, complete a Room Request Form and return it to the church office.

Here are the forms and policies to meet inside or outside CUMC:

Faith Family Hospitality (FFH)

Christ UMC participates in a community project (started February 2012), that utilizes churches to provide food and shelter for homeless families. With the help of our support churches, CUMC hosts up to 4 families for 3 weeks per year. Volunteers are needed for such tasks as making/serving meals, spending the night, and doing laundry. FFH runs under the umbrella of Family Housing Network(FHN). Together we can make a difference in the lives of families in our community by volunteering or making a donation to FHN at Colorado Gives.

Food Bank for Larimer County

Throughout the year, food donations are collected in the Narthex. Monetary contributions can be made by sponsoring a Food Basket for the Altar instead of a floral arrangement or by designated giving.  To learn more about the Larimer County Food Bank.

Heifer International

At Christmas, we support this alternative gift option. Through this ministry people can buy farm animals in honor of a person. The animals are given to poverty-stricken, third-world villages where they provide a path to self-sufficiency with food and income. In turn, the recipients pay it forward to others in their community. Click HERE for more information about Heifer International.

Conference Ministries

Every year, the United Methodist Church designates 6 opportunities for financial support to special programs. They are Human Relations, UMCOR Sunday (formerly One Great Hour of Sharing), World Communion, UM Student, Native American Ministries, and Peace with Justice. The Outreach Committee selects which opportunities the church will support each year. To find more information on the Special Sundays, click HERE.

Buckhorn Summer Camp and Retreat Center

Buckhorn United Methodist Camp is a camping ministry of the Rocky Mountain Conference of the United Methodist Church. Buckhorn Camp celebrates fun, faith, and fellowship in all their activities. There are summer camps for Elementary, Middle, and High School children. They also serve campers with disabilities, retreat groups, school and church groups. The camp is located high atop a Front Range ridge with incredible views down to Fort Collins/Loveland and into the Buckhorn valley. Christ UMC has a long history of involvement as campers, work day volunteers, and financial supporters. To learn more, click HERE.

Habitat for Humanity

Periodically, our church participates in the building of houses in Fort Collins as well as providing financial support. Click HERE for more information about Fort Collins Habitat.

NOMADS and UMVIM

These groups provide opportunities for hands-on mission trips. Nomads On A Mission Active in Divine Service (NOMADS) provide volunteer labor for United Methodist organizations.  United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM) is a grassroots movement within The United Methodist Church. It’s designed to provide an official channel whereby Christians, both lay and clergy, may offer their skills and talents for Christian service at home and around the world on short term assignments at their own expense.

Trailblazer Foundation

Trailblazer Foundation’s mission is to build upon self-sustaining programs that promote community and individual growth, and which empower the individual. Effective implementation of community-based development projects is a long-term solution to alleviating poverty and increasing the quality of life in a sustainable manner. The projects emphasize basic needs, health and sanitation, food security, education and vocational training. At various times, our church collects donations to support this international program.  To learn more about Trailblazer Foundation.

New Opportunities

Loose Ends Project

To make something for someone else is a gesture of love. The person is in your thoughts when you choose the materials and while you create it. If the crafter passes away or is disabled before the project is finished that gesture is incomplete, leaving an unfinished project. This ministry matches unfinished craft projects with volunteer finishers.  Helping complete someone’s gesture of love is a way to spread the love. To submit a project or finish a project, click here.
